As the Methodist Episcopal Church grew, so did divisions over the issues of racism, sexism, capitalism and other social inequities. Women in the church emerged as leaders around social movements and debates led to the Social Creed, which became what we know today as the Social Principles, a Methodist guideline to social witness in the world.
