Adult Bible Studies Winter 2021 | Unit 1: Wait For It
Early in Luke 1, we read the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth and realize that it echoed
several episodes from the Old Testament in which an older, childless woman bore a son
in a remarkable, miraculous way—a signal that God would use this child for a special,
holy purpose. In verses following the Zechariah and Elizabeth story, we see that what
God then did went beyond what God had done in the past. What was emerging in
Nazareth was a new thing, connected to the past but also unprecedented, a fulfillment
and culmination of everything that had come before.
