E24: Ruth B - Do Not Press Me to Leave You
The Bible in 30 Seconds or Less | Old Testament: History
"Do not press me to leave you," Ruth the Moabite says to her mother-in-law Naomi in the depth of grief over the loss of their husbands. Tradition would have called Ruth to return to the land of her birth, to her family of origin and in hopes of finding new life. Instead Ruth insists on returning with her mother-in-law to Bethlehem and with that begins the unlikely story of an unlikely pair. The story of risk, devotion, and sacrifice. But isn't that the way of faith? Aren't we called to leave when it makes more sense to stay and to stay when logic tells us to leave? Faith beckons us to move forward together, embracing uncertainty in our despair, our difficulty, our differences. Ruth provides us with an example and even the words to say: "Do not press me to leave you."""
