The Bible in 30 Seconds or Less | Old Testament: Minor Prophets | 1900

More than any other book, Zechariah looks forward to the coming of the Messiah. Hope for the people is found not in a great conqueror,but in one who comes on a donkey and who will be pierced and will die. The allusions to Jesus are thick, but let's get behind that. God steps in on behalf of his people and is the good shepherd that Zechariah promised. He is the one who suffered wounds on behalf of his people. We are saved, because God acts. Yes, the people have been disobedient, but their disobedience is overcome by the very one the people pierced. You see, whether or not we have been faithful is of little consequence to the one who promises to always be faithful to us.
